European Researchers Night Lisbon

October 08, 2026

Three ORGESTRA Doctoral Candidates – Mark Leahy, Ann-Engelke Timm and Ioanna Michou – took part in European Researchers’ Night in Lisbon, joining researchers from the BioISI Cystic Fibrosis Research Lab to bring biomedical research to the public.

Through hands-on activities, models and demonstrations, visitors of all ages were introduced to organoids and how these “mini-organs” can be used to study cystic fibrosis. The event provided an opportunity to step outside the laboratory and explain not only what we work on, but also why experimental models such as organoids are important for understanding disease and developing new therapeutic approaches.

European Researchers’ Night provides an opportunity to make science more accessible to young audiences and their families, encouraging curiosity and engagement with biomedical research. Thanks to all the children and parents who visited our stand, and to the wider team who helped organise the evening.
