Did you know why August 1st is celebrated as the World RNA Day? The date AUG 1 is a meaningful tribute to the molecular basis of life. AUG is the start codon in messenger RNA (mRNA), signaling the initiation of translation, and 1 marks its position as the first codon translated. Together, they represent the starting point of protein synthesis in all living systems.
It is a fitting day to highlight mRNA. In the last decade, mRNA has become a powerful therapeutic platform, forming the basis of COVID-19 vaccines and a growing range of innovative treatments. At ORGESTRA, we are exploring the potential of mRNA beyond vaccines. One of our current projects focuses on developing mRNA-based therapeutics for Cystinosis, a rare genetic disorder caused by cystine buildup in lysosomes, leading to progressive kidney damage and complications in muscles, eyes, and other organs.
